DIY Removable Glitter Peter Pan Collar

I just love the quirky vintage flair Peter Pan collars give an outfit! Today I made this easy removable collar; it took me about 10 minutes to assemble everything and 20-ish minutes for the glue to dry enough for it to be wearable. Easy peasy!

  

Supplies: sheet of glittered fabric (I found this at Hobby Lobby), gold ribbon, tacky glue, scissors

Step 1: Use this template (print as 8.5x11) as a pattern to cut collar pieces from fabric sheet

Step 2: attach the two collar pieces by gluing an inch of ribbon across the back of the two pieces (shown below)

Step 4: Cut two 14 inch pieces of ribbon and glue one the backs at the tip each collar piece (shown below)

And that's it! All you have to do is wait for it to dry!

DIY Valentine's Day Garland From Doilies and Pom Poms!

Today I made these two fast and easy garlands for Valentine's Day. I love how they turned out; they're so fun and festive!

For the first one, I used a bag of Valentine's colored pom poms I found at the dollar store and strung them using a needle and thread. I found out the hard way that this garland tangles like crazy! Be careful as you're stringing to keep it laying straight  and bribe someone with cookies to help you hang it up. 

I made the second garland using heart shaped paper doilies (also found at the dollar store). I taped bakers twine along the backs of the hearts an inch-ish down from the top. I found it was best to use three small pieces of tape for each heart: one in the middle and one close to each edge. 

And voila! That's it!

Recipe: Arnell's French Bread

Brace yourself, because I'm about to give you the recipe for literally the best French bread in the world. It's soft and sweet and perfect for toast, sandwiches, smothered with butter and honey or just by itself. This is a treasure from the archives of my Mom's family recipes (Side note: I love saying that I used a "family recipe". It makes me feel so domestic.)

Arnell's French Bread

Ingredients:

-2 TB Instant Yeast

-7-71/2 c. flour

-3 Tbs Sugar

-1 Tbs salt

-21/2 c. warm water

-5 Tbs (1/4 c + 1 Tb) canola oil

Mix flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Add water and oil. Knead 4 minutes. Let rise for 15 minutes. Punch down. Do this 4 times (1 hour total). Form into 2-3 long loaves and place on greased cookie sheet. Make 3-5 slashes on each loaf with a serated knife. Brush with egg white and let rise for 20 minutes. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes. 

Thrifty Thursday No. 3

I think I might be addicted to thrift shopping because just walking into DI gives me a high. I suppose there are much worse things to be addicted to. And most other addictions don't result in a wardrobe full of weird clothes that cost you $50 total. So I feel justified. (This is where you just nod your head and smile).

This wasn't my most successful thrifting venture, but I still found some fun things, starting with shoes!

I found these quirky turquoise flats. How fun are these??

 And these trendy chucks! I think these would look so great with brown leather laces. 

Usually I find a million fun dresses when I go thrift shopping, but only one caught my attention this time. I would probably shorten it a to few inches below my knees, but other than that, I love it! (Ignore my messy dressing room hair)

 The lack of dresses forced me to spend a bit more time adventuring in the blouses and skirts. I found some super fun and unique pieces!

Isn't the ruffle on this shirt so fun? Also, I'm 52% sure that this shirt was once worn by a professional clown. That'll make a good conversation stater, I'm sure. 

 I love how unique and still versatile this red skirt is. It's made out of jersey, so it could easily be dressed up or down. 

And I thought the back of this shirt was so pretty! I love the v back and the seams. 

This fun green skirt stole my heart!

Just look at that beautiful pattern and texture!

I can't decide if this looks more like a referee shirt or a pajama top. Maybe this is what referee's pajamas look like? I love it either way. 

 There weren't a ton of vinyls to comb through, but I found some that caught my eye. Gotta love those 60s boy bands and classic musicals!

 I also found this old children's song book! 

And last, but not least, this retro-tastic office chair. I LOVE this shade of orange. This is the color of all my retro fantasies.

Outfit of the Day

Recipe: Double-Cookie Pudgy Fudgy Brownies!

I made this load of sugary, chocolate-y goodness for dessert over the weekend. It was one of those rewarding "throw what you have in a pan and hope it tastes okay" culinary experiences. Goodness, these things are heaven! They might put you into a sugar-induced coma, but I promise it's worth every rich, gooey bite. 

 

Ingredients:

-1 box of brownie mix (prepared as batter according to package instructions)

-Oreos (I happened to have Oreo thins on hand, but 

regular or double stuffed would probably be even better) 

-Ice Cream (optional... but really, why would you 

ever opt out of ice cream and hot fudge?)

Instructions

1. Layer ingredients in an 8x8 or 9x9 pan in this order: 

Cookie dough, oreos, brownie batter

2. Bake at 350 F for 40 minutes.

3. Top with ice cream and fudge

4. Enjoy and share!

So easy and insanely delicious!
